The workshop is aimed at secondary school teachers of history, social and political sciences and other educators from Moldova interested in teaching about historical events. The aim of the workshop is to highlight different narratives in dealing with the crimes of the Second World War and Soviet repression in the second half of the 20th century in Central and South-Eastern Europe, and to sensitize participants to the connection between these narratives in the European context. Additionally, the workshop offers room to identify challenges and opportunities for the teaching of history and to discuss them with the workshop participants.
In the first part of the workshop, the new Moldovan curriculum “Totalitarian Communist Regime: Repression and Resistance Movement” and its implementation, as well as the online platform Hi-Story lessons and its multilingual teaching materials will be presented. In the second part, various project-based approaches to bringing school classes into contact with 20th century history at memorial sites will be introduced, and possible problems and perspectives will be discussed. The third part of the workshop will provide participants with methods and strategies for dialogue on conflictual issues.
